It's so on the nose with its messages (sleazy corporate guy, "At least they don't screw each other over for a bonus"); and then, it has to give Ripley a surrogate daugther because duh, if a woman is an action hero, she certainly is because she has to protect a child ... it also started the whole "we need a BIGGER alien for the final fight!" silliness. And god, do I hate the moment when Newt salutes. There's absolutely nothing cute about it, it's nothing but depressing (and not deliberately so, like a lot of the good stuff in Alien3).Then there's the great stuff, the great characters - Bishop, Hudson ("Game over man, game over!"), even and especially Gorman. Hicks I'm ambivalent about, because on the one hand, he's so forgettable - seriously, thinking about Aliens, it always feels like: "Who survived that one? Ripley, Newt, half a Bishop and a random Marine" - but on the other hand, he's at least not annoying like most of the other marines, and they make it a point that he's just competent and doesn't need the bluster, so that's kind of cool.I kind of like Alien Ressurection for what it is, but it feels a lot more like a crazy parody of an Alien movie. It's fun, but I really don't want to see any of its elements revisited ever again. It is its own thing that doesn't really work that well as part of the larger canon.About the rest? The less said, the better. Covenant was at least a semi-effective horror movie in parts.[/SPOILER]</blockquote>
