It's not a straight jacket, in 4e. Where a Paladin is concerned, putting forth the goals of his god should tend to be far more important. He is, after all, a champion of his religion. Take a look at the actions of the Paladin, compare them to the goals listed for his religion, and if he is acting off script have NPCs gently correct him.Then again, doing things behind the Paladin's back has been a constant meme through all editions of D&D, that I've played. If someone wants to play a character who is so inimical to the goals of the other players, for their characters, then he's either the enemy of fun, and therefore excluded from it, or the butt of the joke.</blockquote>
