[QUOTE="Simulacrum, post: 410126, member: 7749"] I read many interesting post that discussed possible alternitives of the AC system. I was quiteinspired by some--> That is what I came up with: - Light AC Bonus | Damage Reduction padded: 0 | 1/slashing/piercing metal weapons leather: 1 | 1/- studded: 1 | 2/- chain shirt: 2 | 2/- Medium: hide: 1 | 2/- scale mail: 2 | 2/- chainmail: 2 | 3/- breast plate: 3 | 2/- Heavy: splint mail: 3 | 3/- banded mail: 3 | 3/- half plate: 4 | 3/- full plate: 5 | 3/- >I basicly halfed the old AC bonus and distributed it in the ability to deflect (AC) and to absorb (DR) thats why plate has 5 AC | and only 3 DR....plate does exellent deflection but has only limited DR capabilites (still 3 is the highest bonus available!) The armor DR- works together with any non armor DR. Thus a creature having DR 15/+1 wearing fullplate gets it's damage reduced by three, then the rest of the damage has a chance to get through it's natural DR. Shields: As before only the Bonus should be called Shield/Deflection bonus and not Armor bonus! Natural armor is halfed and equals DR. Natural Armor does not stack but overlap with magic items that grant natural armor. Natural armor gives no armor AC bonus. - When using this alternitive rules you should change another rule too: Strength does not grant any attack bonuses, so it only enhances the damage a creature can cause. Instead creatures gain size bonus to attack: L:+4, H:+8 etc... - - I still have to playtest these rules to see if they make sense in D20. I'm thinking of eliminating the Base AC 10 rule (that is an dodge/parry bonus) and think of something that takes your class and level in account ---> But then it start to get very complicated. Still this could be a possible *players option* rule for handling the unrealistic AC bonuses that sum up very quickly. 1st level fighter with dex 12 and plate with shield has an AC of 21!! How can anyone exept another *fighter* of the same level have any chance to score a single hit before he is killed himself?? - All in all I'm okay witht he grim and gritty rules D&D now has, but it's always fun to think of alternitives....what you think?
