Alter Ego offers Ars Magica preorder

A bit of shameless pimping to get a product I want published. Alter Ego Software is engaged in a "ransom" model of preorders. If enough people preorder, they will make the product - if not, they will not (and will return the money of those that preordered).

The product on the line right now is a package covering The Mysteries Revised Edition and Mystery Cults, implementing these ArM5 supplements through their Metacreator software.

So if you liked TMRE or MC, and want to purchase a packet to allow you to do the mechanics of character management with the software - preorder it. Otherwise, we may not see the package, ever. (Right now I think something like 20 orders are missing. We have until Nov 16 or they abandon the idea of making this product.)

I loved TMRE and MC, and Metacreator is a very nice character generation and management program for those of you that don't know it. Obviously, I think it's a good buy - or I wouldn't recommend it.

So - preorder now!

That's a great idea.

A lot of people don't appreciate the plight of the small game publisher, creator, distributor, etc. But it's very hard for them to make a buck at what they do.

More often than not, they extend their personal credit trying to make a "go" of it, and are very lucky to ever break even in the long run.

Securing enough interest to insure they recoup the bulk of costs is a great idea. I'm not sure if I'll preorder, but I'll definitely check it out.

Thanks!

I dunno.

I downloaded the free version of Metacreator and found it more bother than it was worth.

Me & rpgs? Gimme pen & paper every time...

Well, it IS a bit expensive. I think that for a long-term game it is a great aid, however. And it is equally excellent for making characters - even without the book.

I don't run ArM with pen & paper anyways. If I'm not using Metacreator, I'm using a spreadsheet. :) It's certainly doable with a pen & paper, I just perfer to work electronically and have all my the machanics of my character's history available at a glance. I also make D&D character sheets as text files, or with PCGen.
