Hello everyone I don't know if there is a separate Middle Earth forum, and so I post this topic here. I am working to a Middle Earth conversion to D&D, using part of the material found on Middle Earth d20 site, and I'm a bit confused on combat sistems. The standard D&D combat system works fine, but there is still the problem that high level characters can take massive damage without suffering any penality. I tried the WP/VP system from Star Wars d20, but while it works perfectly for SW, it doesn't work for ME, I think. Even giving only WP to orcs would make the standard orc (a D&D Hobgoblin) have 13 WP, and so it is nearly impossible to kill with one shot unless on a critical, and so the system is actually worse than the normal D&D: each single hit of a decent figher brings down a simple orc, both in the books and in the film ! It also requires to give a class bonus to defense (that is what I will do anyway, probably, but not as high as the one in SW), and suggests to have armor provide DR (as in SW) which does not work as D&D weapons do very few damage (compared to SW blasters) and so a simple DR 3 halves most of the damage. I will probably try the WP/VP variant by Scott Holden-Jones (on the ME d20 site) and/or use the Critical Effects by Erica Balsley (from the same site). Anybody has ideas ? (please not too complicated ones)
