I just started getting into d20 modern, and I like some of the features alot. One thing I like is occupations, but I think that the rules are poorly executed. Has anyone done something different with occupation rules?
I plan on this:
1) Choose an occupation at 1st Level. Do not select any skills as class skills. As long as you hold this occupation, you may spend skill points on occupation skills as if they were class skills.
2) If your occupation offers a bonus feat, select one of the feats as a virtual feat for as long as you hold this occupation.
3a) When you gain a new level, you have the option, with the gm's permission, to change occupations. If the gm agrees, you can not spend any skill points from you recent level, on you current occupation. You are now in training, self-study, or attending some private courses.
3b) The next time you level, after declaring that you wish to switch occupations, you achieve your new occupation. Adjust your wealth bonus by the difference between the two occ. Erase any virtual feats from the old occ, and choose a new virtual feat, if appropriate. You may now spend skill points on the new occupation skills as if they were class skills.
