alternate paladin mounts...need help..please

Well, that is debatable.

Unlike the familiar, which gives an improvement to natural armor, mounts get a bonus, which as usual do not stack with existing bonuses.

So by the (written) rules, and from the only example of such in the DotF, then no, the natural armor bonus a mount recieves does not stack with existing natural armor bonuses.

It's been clarified (somewhere) that they do stack.

well goin back to the natural aromor bonus. it is an unamed bonus. and by rule unamed bonuses stackwith all other bonuses, even other unamed ones. so i dont see why the bonus would not stack. also take into account that the default mount of a medium size paladin, is a large warhorse. a large warhorse comes equiped with a 4 natural armor ( found in MM), so why would they include a bonus, if the default mount already has one. the paladins mount is supposed to be a superior representive of its type.

Yes, in a e-mail response from the Sage which is 18 months old, and did not make it to the FAQ. Strange.

As always I ignore email responses from the Sage especially those that go against what is actually written in the book.

Last time I checked a natural armor bonus was a natural armor bonus but if the rules changed overnight please let me know.

Because, if they didn't, what would be the point of including it in the paladin mount progression table?

It is written nowhere that a paladins mount actually has to be a creature with a natural armor bonus rating at all.

A natural armor improvement like that of a familiar improves the natural armor rating of the creature, however if the creature did not have a natural armor rating to begin with an improvement would not help you at all. A natural armor bonus does exactly that.

I like the idea of giant stag beetle ...

also check out claudios site, he has a gnome paladin mounted on a dire badger ... in his wallpaper section.
