Alternate races to replace 1/2 Elf, 1/2 Orc?

I am thinking about running a campaign with no orcs and in which Elves do not breed with Humans because they are very isolated. So... these two races don't make much sense anymore. I don't want new names for the same races, but what other established Humanoid races would make good PC races with sustainable cultures and why do you think so? (Sorry, I am an English teacher LOL):D

Wow, what helpful replies thus far. I want to replace them because I want to replace them. Why are they there to begin with? I don't know. Anyone who actually has a suggestion out there?

Lizardfolk are a pretty common one in D&D settings, they are pretty neutral and found on most worlds. Even though you have discounted it I like the Ravenloft world's no half orcs but humans cursed in the womb get half orc stats. It creates a good mood that is evocative and easy to insert into normal gaming societies.

Lizardman is a good choice. As for the Ravenloft thing... I haven't seen it in person. Is that the Caliban? Cursed humans, hmm. I like that as well. Thanks.:)

I agree completely with hong; why do you need replacements? That said, you can call thick-headed brutes many things besides "half-orcs": Neanderthals, Ape-Men, Man-Apes, Hobgoblins, Trolls, Ogres, Calibans (to borrow from Ravenloft), etc. The big, dumb brute is quite an archetype.

If you want to get rid of them get rid of them. They don't really fit a certain niche that will be a noticible void if you get rid of them.

No, no, no, that's the Taliban. Caliban is this rules guru d00d who hangs out in the D&D Rules forum.
