Alternatives to White Wolf Vampires?

First Post
Does anyone know a good alternative to Vampire: the Masquerade and Requiem? Since I have my own reasons why I have problems with those games.

Strictly I'm looking for a game that is similar to VtM in terms of it takes place in the modern era, similar gothic punk elements (like Vamps in punk battle leather jackets, trenchcoats and sunglasses at midnight potentially hiding their red crimson glowing eyes which some vampires have) but without all the baggage that VtM comes with like the Noddest lore, clans, the beast & frenzy, the humanity/path/road system, etc.

Of course I'm thinking of a game where Vampire powers and weaknesses vary for example some vampires can walk in the sun but their powers are weakened while some burn in sunlight and such.

The Dresden Files RPG (using the Fate system) has a couple different types of vampires you can play (along with other supernatural beings). I’m no fan of the books, and wizards are annoyingly OP in the game, but the system is mostly sound other than that, and it sounds like it could meet your needs.

Then again I heard none of the other Vamp courts other than the White Court are playable and the latter are not the sort of Vampire I would want to play since they're psychic/emotional/life force vampires with a limited life span not undead immortal blood drinkers which are the ones I would want to play.

GURPS did a V:tM worldbook, but I guess it'd've had all the same gnostic/clan/etc baggage... different system, though. ;)

I agree that FATE could do a fine job. The vampires in Dresden, specifically are, well, they're what they are. There's psychic vampires and bat-people vampires, and the more traditional Dracula type are supposedly extinct.

You can use the V:tM for the rules, but changing totally the background, maybe getting some ideas from supernatural romance books, you can find background about these in their wikis.

Another thing too I want nothing to do with any type of romance at all nor am I looking into them for ideas.

My sugestión is to take requiem 2nd edición and remove anchors, humanity and covenants

Well to be honest Requiem does a better job with the clans and bloodlines and covenants than Masquerade (especially I never liked the sect dichotomy) which I'll leave them in there but I'll totally ditch humanity and anchors though and of course make "Draugr" well to be entirely separate creatures or rather just use the Norse Draugr.

Of course the only thing I like about Masquerade is it's disciplines though since they're powerful and combat effective than Reqiuem's disciplines which I might as well port Masquerade clans like the Tremere, Tzimisce and Lasombra as bloodlines including their disciplines intact.

Which then again one of my complaints about Requiem is due to the fact the disciplines are less combat oriented than Masquerade which is a problem hence why I often viewed Requiem Vampires weaker than Masquerade Vampires hence why I always lean towards the latter.

Sadly those are out of the question.

There is NightLife, which somehow manages to cram the entire lineup of the World of Darkness (and then some!) into one Palladium-esque book. Reviews are mixed, but it's definitely not World of Darkness.

Of course Nightlife still has that pesky humanity system where it's even worse where it's similar to 2nd Edition Requiem's humanity system where you can't even use your powers and such or else your humanity lowers.

From what I recall, it's really not that bad. You can use your full allotment of points in every session, and you only lose points from your maximum if you spend over your limit. If you do lose points for going over your limit, then recovery is annoying because you have to go an entire session without spending anything before it starts to heal back, but you shouldn't need that if you don't go over in the first place.

Or I could be mis-remembering, or it could vary between editions.
