I know there was a thread on mazes a while back, I couldn't find it. But I'm looking for some free, fairly difficult, massive mazes to use in an upcoming part of my game. If there's one that's already gridded, or has some kind of distance measurement (since I obviously won't display the whole maze but need to know rough distances in it for travel time) that would be great.

Any suggestions?

Use a search engine to get any old maze you like then scale it for printing such that a hallway is a quarter inch (figuring ten foot hallways). Print it on graph paper.

I'd been thinking about a new way to run mazes to appease the modern RPGers who tend to abhor them as time-wasters. Print several copies. Ask who is leading and give that one person a copy and a pen. If players ask for additional copies tell them they can each have one if they split up. (They probably won't.) Let the leader who has a pen draw their path but the maze has to be turned over any time they stop drawing. Tell them they can switch leaders at any time.

Watch as the maze solving goes on with your master map handy. If they run into something in the maze have them turn it over and run any necessary encounter. Once they are clear of the maze, take a short break to calculate the distance traveled, any stops and/or encounters, and thus the time spent. This should suffice as a pretty good compromise between Old School mapping traditions and new school pacing.
