Amazing dice rolls

During my game last night a series of dice rolls occured that I wanted to share.

My PCs were entering into a large (although easy) fight. They approached a room, and I related the description. This room contained 10 creatures of one type and 4 of another.

I drew a layout of the room on a whiteboard, and then gathered 10d10 and 4d4.

To determine the position of the monsters in the room at the time of the party's arrival, I rolled the d10s onto the map. Then I went to rearrange the dice so that only one of each number was upwards (thus allowing us identify each one independantly).

And here's where the strange rolling came in: The dice had fallen as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 0.

Then I picked up the 4d4, and rolled them onto the map. And they came up 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Bizarre.

Anyone got similar stories they wish to share?

Well, there is the time that during a really big battle I rolled 7 1s on a d20....

it goes without saying that the d20 in question did not survive the night.

I witnessed a handful of bizarre rolls at the time I GMed Earthdawn. In that system, each time you roll the maximum in a die, you roll that die again and keep rolling until it is not the maximum. The most impressive time was a 54 with a d12. That's not very impressive.

But on the dice throwing subject: a player of mine - still Earthdawn at the time - threw dice out the window 3 times in the 2 years we played. Two times it was for dice that nearly killed him... he had once a bout of 5 successive 1's with a d10. The third time he went of dice throwing was a time I banned a dice of his from the table as it was clearly - if crudely - worn out on a side to try to make it show 20 more often.

Finally, a player of mine always rolled 1's on his dice (even when that was a handful) when I told him he could roll as low as possible, "but 1's".

Another subject full of interesting stories would be: how do you or your players "power up" dice to make them roll good?:D

Last year, one of my players (KidCthulhu) rolled four consecutive 20s. The odds of doing that are one in 160,000. Not too shabby!

If you are for some reason bleeding, be sure to get some blood on your dice. You never know.;)

I wish I had been there for this one, but a friend of mine brought a new purple 20 sided dice to the game, and said 'This is going to roll great...", as he gave it a test roll. Naturally, the first roll was a 1.

Later that evening in a battle with squees', (goblins or any other 1/2 CR or less threat), He managed to roll nothing but 1's on his to hit rolls. The finale number was 7 or 9, I forget which. The thing is, it was a home brew system, long before 3E, and it had crit charts. In the end, he killed over half the party, while the squees' did virtually nothing. The dice was chucked out the window, and he and another player have had a phobia about purple ever since.

Funny thing is, the dice was back the next day. The DM's mom found it the yard and returned it. The player even went so far as to eradicate the 1 from it's surface with a steak knife. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it was now lighter on the 1 side, and more likely to a 1 from now on.

The DM kept it, tempting people to use it for years. It really did seem to have a way of screwing you when it was the worst time for you.

My personal record was 3 1's in a row, but I firmly belive that it was only due to the fact that I could make no more rolls for that encounter. Our party was clibing a cliff into the layer of a "Wombat", read Batman esque man-bat hybrid. This being the same homebrew system, and a DM who was an ass, there was a fear check at every monster. Golins were low, dragons high, ect. If you faild or suceeded against them, you gained a permanent +/- 1 to save vs the same type of creature.

So it jumps out at us, and my max courage score PC rolls a 1. I scream like a little girl. Since my move was higher than the Wombat's, I run, instead of being frozen in fear. Well, I'm in a tunnel, only one way to run...

So the DM lets me make an Intelligence check to realize I was going off a cliff. I roll a 1 and pull a classic Wile E. Cyote.

As I falling, I try to grab the rope that we used to climb the cliff, and roll another 1. I hit and go unconcious.

The thing that really irks me is that everyone finished the fight, and then looted the cavern before coming to heal me. They're PC's had no if I was dying or not, but gold came first. I was just along the way back.

The same DM also had a homebrew pirates game, using only the d12. Every one started with a d12 in gold. You could keep rolling for more gold so long as you met a certain number, determined by your nationality. One time I just kept rolling, and ended up with hundreds of gold. Being a tradesman had its perks, until our fist fight where I got critted in the head. Should have bought a helmet.

There was a time that a short term player named Chris rolled 3 20's on 3 dice in one throw. It was on a bet no less. The running joke is that he is still owed a mountain of green twinkies.

ShadowRun uses the same basic idea, but with d6. I rolled something like a 72 once -- for initiative. Even taking into account my +10, that's still pretty cool.

Oh, yeah. I went _so_ first.

When we played tonight, it was the strangest thing. 5 out of my 6 die rolls for skills (no combat) rolled the exact number as the target DC (usually contested rolls). Of course, since in all case I had bonuses, you get the idea. The last one was a diplomacy check where we were trying to sell products at a good price. We were on friendly terms with the guy. His total is a 19. My roll? A 19. Add the +11 and you get the idea. That's how the day went.

Hmm....not in role playing games....but playing a game at an SCA event....we saw some horrible rolls. The game had a bunch of squares....something like 10 x 10. 4 had littlle islands on them, 6 were white, and the rest were blue. along the edges were arrows....showing which way to move. you had 2 dice...2 d6s. or rather, 1 d6 and one which was yellow on 4 sides, had an H on one, and a T on the other. The colored was the weather dice.....you rolled both. The d6 told you how much to move along the columns, the weather dice was either good (you roll again and move that many times down the rows) or terrible (move backwards the same way). I saw one guy that couldnt start for 6 rounds...he rolled 6 consecutive 1s with the T(bad) showing up. EVERY round. then he got out, and the next round....the same thing. He couldnt roll decent for anything. Needless to say, he lost.
