[QUOTE="DreamChaser, post: 1263125, member: 1190"] The first thing that leapt out at me was the bite. Why would a bite do slashing damage? They are medium sized and have powerful (if spindley) legs. So why do they have a speed of 20 feet? You speak of a lack of focus in the flavah but you don't reflect that below. A lack of focus, IMO, is a Wisdom penalty. You choose to give them a Charisma penalty, which pushes this class into an "everyones a warrior" mold. A bonus to Strength, even taking into accound the Con penalty, added together with a Charisma penalty says that every up Ambyr will be a barbarian or fighter. On a nit-picky, pseudo anthropological note: if a creature capable of expressing feelings, it will in some way or another, even if their culture does not encourage it. I feel like you wanted to make them vulcan-like, with a very flat expression and very little emotion (the lazy roleplayer's dream LOL) but you didn't want to overbalance them by giving them a bonus against emotional effects, which they would logically (heh heh heh) get. My suggestion: break out of the emotionless, analyitical bug and make them a passionate race of arachnoid artists. Along the same vein, a culture that can disolve the concept of family or clan has to be socially quite advanced--have reached a stage wherein the society can provide for all young equally until they are old enough to test into their caste. Either that, or ambyr culture would have to tend toward evil and simply abandon their young (who would have to mature very quickly) until those that survived returned to be tested. Unless all ambyrs are male, technically they look like a cross between a spider and a human (not a man). I also need to point out that for ambyrs to seem arachnoid, they would need another pair of legs (preferred) or another set of arms (this would move into ECL issues). My overall suggestions: * make the flavah text more consistant and helpful from an RP standpoint (since that is the only reason it is there). * +2 Strength, -2 Constitution, -2 Wisdom (this way they can be expressive but easily distracted). * Monsterous Humanoid (makes sense) * Medium Size * Ambyr base land speed is 30 feet. * Multipedal: Ambyrs are exceptionally stable because of their six? spindly legs. An ambyr gains a +4 racial bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped when standing on the ground. In addition they gain a +2 racial bonus to balance checks. * Leap: An ambyr is treated as a bipedal creature for the purpose of determining its maximum vertical reach for all Jump DCs. In addition, it gains a +2 racial bonus on jump checks. * Unusual Body Shape: Because of an ambyr’s unusual body shape, they cannot wear standard humanoid armor and must use barding instead. Ambyrs cannot wear belts, boots, cloaks or gloves designed for humanoids. * Natural Attack: An ambyr may use its bite as a natural weapon, making 1 attack that deals 1d4 points of piercing damage (plus Strength bonus). An ambyr can attack with a weapon at its normal attack bonus and make one bite attack as a secondary attack (-5 penalty on the attack roll, and half Strength bonus on the damage roll). * Natural Armor: Their hairy, chitinous plates provide ambyrs with a +1 natural armor bonus to AC. * Automatic Languages: Common and Ambyrian. Bonus Languages: Any. I took out the racial spot and hide bonuses. The was nothing in the flavah that indicated such a bonus. I added in the balance bonus. I changed slashing to piercing in the bite attack. And may I ask what saving throw progression you're using for the racial levels? Why not just use the standard progressions? hope that helps.
