Greetings!

I was looking over Ancient Kingdoms Mesopotamia, By Morten Braten, published by Necromancer Games, 2004.

I like the book. It gives an interesting, if concise, framework of material on Mesopotamian religion and culture, before giving an expanded and detailed series of adventures and encounters. The book features lots of quick tables for dreams, battlefield treasure, wilderness encounters, and other odd bits that add flavour. There are a few prestige classes, some new spells and feats, and a few magic items. Pretty cool, though I found myself wishing that they had provided a more thorough treatment.

What do you think of the book? What do you like? What do you dislike? If you own and use it, have there been any hidden disappointments, or unexpected *cool* things that grew on you as you worked with the material?

I have it; it's the only module-book that I was actually enticed to buy. I like it. My intent was to convert it to a d20 Modern/Past game ala Cthulhu/Indiana Jones in 1937 Iraq with nazis around... But well, I also have so many other campaigns to run that... :(
 

I like the book, but think it probably works better for Conan (using eastern Shem instead of Mesopotamia). The author has posted conversion notes at his website.
 


I like it - think the coverage of the background is useful for gaming, but as one of the other GM's in my group owns it I haven't read the adventure.

Doesn't surprise me at all that it would work well with the Conan RPG, given Morten's website.
 



The adventures ARE background info! Just useful and applied info. A very good book, especially if you are interested in such a setting.

Right, but I wanted even more background info and less adventures. Ya, they combined the two and did a good job with the book, but I wanted more.
 

I wouldn't use all the crunchy bits, such as the new prestige classes or the magic system. The rest I would use to run a Howard-esque D&D campaign. It feels better to me than Conan d20. I really like it and wish I had the time and the players to DM it.
