And Conan should have a ??? accent?

In Red Nails the voice of Conan is Ron Pearlman. So my second guess would be a Hellish accent.

I think Ron's going to be a good Conan voice. Kind of rough, but likeable at the same time.

He rocked in ALIEN 8 (the ocho).

I would say Welsh. I have an easier time imagine the mighty-thewed, panther-like Conan speaking with a Welsh lilt than I can a Scottish brogue. I think Welsh is more musical.

I would say Scots, not Welsh, for the exact same reason! East coast/Aberdeenshire Scots would be closest to my mind.

Actually, I don't think the slave thing was something that came from Howard. It was either created for the movie or maybe in one of the awful pastiches written over the years.

As far as I recall, Conan was never a slave and grew up in Cimmeria. He did travel enough that it's not unreasonable to assume he lost a good deal of his accent by the time he became king.
I think young Conan was briefly a slave . . . after he and his raiding party were slain/captured by those he was raiding (opposite of the film). :)

That said, whatever period of slavery he may have endured really had no bearing on his character and development in contradistinction to the film.

I really think the slavery thing may have been from one of the non-Howard pastiches. But I admit I could be wrong. Where's Vincent Darlage when you need him?
