Yeah, it was the sort of game I was really looking forward to running. Not many of my players have played an oldschool-style game, so it was a refreshing change of pace for all of us. While the near-TPK was happening, there were people laughing their arses off around the table, and everyone said they'd love to come back for more. There was plenty of improvisation. For instance, when Ender saw the two kobolds carrying a cauldron full of acid, he tried to slip past them (even though they blocked the corridor). There weren't any rules for it, but kobolds are small sized, so I asked for a dexterity check; it seemed appropriate. Since he botched it, the acid spilled, killing both kobolds and hitting him pretty hard. We also had Evan the rogue pick up a bottle of alcohol and make molotov cocktails. I gave him advantage on the attack rolls for creative use of treasure, and he cleaned up bunches of the little buggers with the two he threw. The very best part... at the conclusion of the first battle, there was a discussion in the group. They considered whether they wanted to retreat and try another cave. One of the dwarves said, "We aren't going to find anything weaker than kobolds." We will definitely do another session. I actually ran two groups, but the others were more successful facing the goblins. They wound up taking a trip back to town after the first battle against goblins, and that made all the difference. Either way, both groups were eager for more, so we'll be continuing. I expect we'll use the pregens as written right now. We can have people trade them around and try something new for their next trip in. Thanks for reading, folks!
