Sort of...

By my reading, the Improved Bind Vestige feat would technically qualify you for the Anima Mage prestige class.

Unfortunately, as soon as you took the first level of the prestige class, you would (1) gain the ability to bind vestiges as a normal first level binder, which would (2) cause you to lose the benefit of the Bind Vestige feat, which would, in turn, (3) cause you to lose the benefit of the Improved Bind Vestige feat, which, of course, (4) removes your qualifications for the Anima Mage prestige class, thereby (5) preventing you from advancing further in the class and (6) denying you all of the class abilities--not that there are any really worth mentioning at first level of the prestige class.

So, short answer, no.

Nogray nailed it.

In taking the class you lose the benefits of the feat, due to the wording of the feat itself, and thereby lose the class pre-reqs.

You'd be much better off taking 1 level of Binder and the Improved Binder feat.

what if I took Improved Binding (allowing me to pick my vestiges as though I was 2 levels higher) as my 6th level feat when attaining entry into the class?

As above, you'd lose access to the effects of Bind Vestige when you became able to Bind Vestiges without the feat (ie. the Prestige Class). Sorry.

Just take Practiced Spellcaster (Wizard), one level of Binder, and the Improved Binding feat.

I believe you can take two levels of Wizard and take "Precocious Apprentice" at 1st level to get a 2nd level spell slot (this is legal by the rules). Then take one level of Binder and take Improved Binding, and at 4th level you can enter Anima Mage.

Precocious Apprentice doesn't work for pre-reqs. Has been stated that lack of note of such in the original feat was an oversight.

Do you have an official citing for this? I thought the same thing but the general response I got was that this is one of the few PA tricks that are actually legal and actually work.

I think the problem with the bind vestige feat is that it doesn't actually give you a "level" of binding, so all the levels of anima mage won't stack with it.

I play an anima mage; binder 1/wiz3/anima mage7. I used the improved binding feat to qualify; I've only lost one level of casting and can now bind two vestiges. Totally worth it.
