I am pleased to announce that something I have been working on off and on for a while is finally at the point where I can release it. I am releasing SpellGen beta version 0.4 to general availability.
SpellGen is a windows application designed to allow you to create a spell list for spellcasting characters. (If you are familiar with Steve's spellsheet, the idea is the same except that it is an application with data files rather than an Excel spreadsheet) The baseline data was pulled from the latest version of Steve's, and several other books have been entered by Tristian and myself. (mostly Tristian)
Two applications are included, SpellGen, which allows you to build spell lists for characters, and a reference editor which allows you to edit the reference files. The reference files are Xml data files, which can be edited either with the supplied editor or with any xml editor.
Most of the current WotC books have reference files at least started, although some are not yet complete.
If you wish to take a look I have created a web site for the application, http://d20spellbook.home.comcast.net/
Please note that the application was written using Microsoft .NET and therefore requires the .NET framework version 1.1 to run. You can install that either via windows update or by downloading directly from Microsoft.
I have also set up a yahoo group mailing list. If people have questions and comments please post them there.
My gaming group has been using this for a while for our own characters, I hope others find it as useful as we have.
