Message: <blockquote data-quote="BOZ" data-source="post: 3086101" data-attributes="member: 1241">yes, it's a two-parter!for the query i just sent out, we went with some of the remaining more-popular well-known creatures from higher profile books.  this time, we're going to try something a little more experimental, something i like to call "one-hit wonders".let me explain.  most of the popular, better known monsters have been in two, three, four, or even more books over the years.  exposure in sources like the Monster Manual has allowed more people to see them, and thus they are remembered by more people.  this time around, i'd like to go for the creatures that haven't had so much exposure.  the ones who lay forgotten in an old copy of Dragon, or in a 1st edition module and weren't reprinted in another book after that.  creatures which had potential, but were never used again.what i want each of you to do, if you are so willing, is to nominate up to 5 monsters each, which have only appeared in one official pre-3E source ever, and you MUST list the source it appeared in.  i'll give it a few weeks, and then i will make a new poll with the results, the most popular of which will become a second Creature Catalog article query.hey, it worked for the illithocyte, who knows what else might be drudged up from the depths of obscurity.  <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":)" title="Smile    :)"  data-smilie="1"data-shortname=":)" />if the source you found the creature in was perhaps the second, or third, place it appeared (whether you realized it or not), it will be disqualified.  if you posted something which was later reprinted in another book, it will likewise not be considered for this query.  if you choose something that doesn't meet this qualifications, you can of course subtitute something that does.make sure the creatures you choose are still worthwhile creatures.  preferrably, they should also not be things which are already well-covered by existing 3E monsters.  of course, no joke monsters like things from April Fools issues of Dragon.  <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f609.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=";)" title="Wink    ;)"  data-smilie="2"data-shortname=";)" />  also, try to avoid creatures that are parts of multiple variant creatures (such as the "destriers of the planes") as such collections of creatures would work better presented as a whole rather than individually - in other words, if it works well as a standalone creature, then OK, but otherwise save them for something else.there are a LOT of candidates out there.  Dragon and Dungeon have many, as do a number of 1E and 2E modules.  the campaign settings, Dark Sun, Planescape, etc are chock full of them.  i'm sure, with a little bit of patience and thought, you'll do just fine. <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":)" title="Smile    :)"  data-smilie="1"data-shortname=":)" />  caveat emptor!</blockquote>
