I remember playing in an awesome 1E game, where the characters became embroiled in a plot to overthrow Anthraxus. Bubonis wanted to trick the PC's to assassinate him... Long story short, this was one of the greatest games I ever played and I was wanting to rip it off for 3.5. The 1E material for Bubonis is nothing more than a name listed in Anthraxus' entry in the 1E Monster Manual II. I know that all the old 'daemons' are now 'loths' (mezzoloth as opposed to mezzodaemon, for example). I've already seen the material on Khin-Oin in the 3E Manual of the Planes. Does anyone know of any updated statistics for Anthraxus or Bubonis? More material on Hades, Gehenna, or Tarterus for 3.5E that might help? I'd appreciate any input or suggestions on this campaign arc. Here's the basics so far, from low level to high: 1) Characters encounter evil clerics exploring dungeons. The clerics are collecting bone fragments and seem to be searching for a particular book. 2) Characters figure out that the evil clerics are trying to revive an ancient lich, whom they revere as a demigod. The evil clerics succeed (at least partially) when they find his phylactery (one of his old spellbooks). 3) The characters fight an undead horde gathering in the evil temple. They destroy the lich and his phylactery, but when they do so, they are pulled through an interplanar rift into Hades. 4) Bubonis reveals that the lich was his servant, that he was raising the undead army to bring to Hades and fight against Anthraxus. Bubonis is upset that they destroyed his favored servant, but is willing to cut a deal: he will leave their world alone forever after if the characters assassinate Anthraxus for him. 5) The characters infiltrate Anthraxus' court and attempt to either double-cross Bubonis or carry out the assassination. I want the story to be meaty enough for about a year of regular play time. I'm wanting to go all the way from 1st level to at least 15th-16th. I want to start with the stats for Bubonis and Anthraxus, since it's generally easier to 'work down' on a campaign than to 'build up.'
