Any 3.5 character generators out there?

Looking for a character generator that I don't have to convert.

Anything?

I don't know of anything, but that sounds like a fun project. What would you want in a character generator?

Should it create a random character, or should you be able to select the race and class?

Should it roll and assign the stats for you (based on the class), or just roll them and have you assign them?

Should it include random height, weight, eye color, etc. based on race?

Should it randomly assign skill points, or leave that alone for you to select on your own?

Should it always generate level 1 characters or should you be able to have it generate higher level characters?

If it can create higher level characters, should it allow for cross classing, or just stick to one class?

I am sure that there are other options that could be included, but those are the ones that I could think of off the top of my head.

I've had good luck with the newest demo of DM genie. I think the shareware version lasts 60 days... long enough for more 3.5 generators to come out.

DMGenie indeed is 3.5 compliant, and is supported with updates sometimes once every week, to once a month other times.

I've been using it for quite some time and have been thoroughly impressed by it.

Does it do the same thing as Jamis Buck's generator? Click of a button and ta da... instant NPC?

Peace and smiles :)

I was just thinking about this today!

Having a good software program that can help generate 3.5 stat blocks in a standard fashion would be EXCELLENT! I would pay $40 for something like this. I don't know why this hasn't been produced yet. It would surely save game designers a lot of time.

I'm going to check out DMGenie though. Maybe it will be useful, too! :)

I use PcGen. it will support 3.5 before the end of the month :)

I've heard mixed reviews about this product, but I'd be interested if it's 3.5 updated and useable. Can you tell me how exactly it works and what the stat blocks look like? Thanks! :)

I've been using PCGen for quite some time now. It is pretty good. Problems that can arise though include:

Slowdowns, this usually means you need to cut back on the number of datasets you have running. I generally have the core books, SRD, Creative Mountain Games alternate spell names, Books of Eldritch Might, Seas of Blood, Quintessential Fighter and Rogue, and a converted data set for Iron Kingdoms, and have no problems with the speed. (Being Java it will be slower on a PC than a native program, but it is fast enough for me.)

Forgetting to transfer data over when a new version comes out (about once a week or so) can lead to a great deal of frustration. (In particular any Point buy schemes you have dreamed up, these don't get transfered over, you have to go in and port them over manually)

Transferring data over without updating it can also lead to frustration. (There is an autoeditor to do the updating for you, just don't forget to use it.)

If I make it sound hard to use I apologize, it really isn't hard to use at all, and I have had a great deal of fun using it. It is just... quirky.
