Any Fighting Fantasy Conversion Notes?

Given the quality of the Myriador version, I personally think it'd be great to see other publishers use the original books as inspirations for their own stuff.

If we have multiple publishers going for first edition feel, maybe one could aim for Fighting Fantasy feel, too.

Most adventures adhere to existing SRD monsters anyway, but add one or two new creatures, which is about par for the course for many modules as-is.

Hmmm, it might be an interesting thought puzzle to isolate what Fighting Fantasy feel really is. The creepy art is certainly part of it.

A world in chaos, where danger lurks everywhere.

A creepy, fairy-tale feel.

The forests are dark and deep.

The dungeons are scary and nonsensical (in a good way, usually).

Humans are few and embattled. There seem to be more orcs than humans in Allansia!

From my experience of various settings, I'd say Judges' Guild Wilderlands is closest to FF in tone, but without the general creepiness and with more of a Jon Carter/swashbucking mood.

There are no empires or powerful kingdoms in FF (leaving aside the 'good' kingdoms mentioned in Sorcery!, who can't be that powerful if they need a macguffin just to maintain internal cohesion).

Chaos always threatens to overwhelm the last redoubts of Law.

Monsters are weird, and little understood. Magic is rare, mysterious - there is no single over-arching 'system' - and more commonly found in the hands of Chaos than of Law.

Inns charge several gp for a night's rest!

Hey Erik! :)

I loved these books dearly as a child. When I heard a company was doing d20 conversions I offered to help them basically for free. They essentially told me to pound sand.

::shrug::

The books themselves are great fun, though.

Now you have just got me tearfully thinking how good it would have been to see d20 versions of the adventures in Dungeon.

Or even a Warlock of Firetop Mountain - Return to Firetop Mountain - Legend of Zagor Adventure Path series.

In fact a number of the books seem to form their own Adventure Paths.

Forest of Doom - Temple of Terror - Crypt of the Sorcerer

Deathtrap Dungeon - Trial of Champions - Armies of Death

Island of the Lizard King - Battleblade Warrior - ?

Shemmy's gonna kill me - I gave my spare copy of no. 48 away two weeks ago...

Last year, while back in the UK, I was able to buy 15 books I was missing from the series. For 1 pound 50. At a train station. :D
