We are still at it and, I must say, working like total dogs
Seriously (it's been mentioned a few times in the judges forum) there doesn't really seem to be
any half-assed product that can be easily disregarded as uncompetitive. The quality of submissions this year is breathtaking.
I remember a few years back some publisher mentioned looking forward to the day when he would be able to realisitcally challenge WotC in the realm of production values and suchlike...that day has pretty clearly arrived. I've been an ENnies judge since the very beginning, and this is the most discussion amongst the judges I have ever withnessed.
Nothing seems to be a shoe-in. In years past there was hard fought/argued contention for the fourth or fifth slot in most categories, with products that were almost universally voted in taking the top spots.
This year, there are very occasional unanimous #1 slots, but for the most part, slots 1-5 are being hotly contested by nearly the entire list in the category.
Speaking of which, I should probably get back to my reading.
