She was a prevalent character in Japan during the 80's and the early 90's of US anime fandom. But UY was a very difficult series to translate, with a fair amount of japanese culture refrences & chocked full of puns mostly only someone fluent in japanese would get. So when AnimEigo, the Company that was doing the domestic translation decided Subtitling was the only proper way to do the series [they also were NOT good dubbers at the time either] it meant that when the Dubbed anime took over the Anime scene[uhhhgg] UY got chucked VERY deep into the nitch market. Soon Animeigo will realease UY Movie One "Only You" dubbed & subbed on DVD. Hopefully the english version will be dubbed wat'chable. Which is about as likely as Ataru swearing to be faithful to Lum
On a side note, I believe Rumiko Takahashi, creator of the UY series had intended Lum's hair & eyes to be more of a shifting Multicoloured Irindecent [like a laserdisc without the silver basecoat] but trying to animate that would of been insane in the early 80's and even today would take alot of CG
