Anyone else bringing their kids to GenCon?

This will be the first year my daughter has come to GenCon with me since she was just a wee little baby. I've been at every GenCon since 1989, but Kate usually spends that week visiting Grandma and Grandpa or stays at home with her dad. This year, at 6.5, she's been to a few smaller conventions with me and is eager to come and "help sell books." (I figure the thrill of that will last all of 20 minutes.)

Anyone else bringing their kids? What sorts of things are you planning to keep them occupied? Kate is looking forward to another game of Firefly Games' Monster Island (which she play-tested at DunDraCon this year), she's always happy to beat the GR staff at a quick game of Fantasy Flight's MAG-BLAST, and Doc Cross has agreed to run a TOON game for her. I could probably use a few more ideas, though. :)

I would . ..

. . . but I am no longer allowed to release the children from their natural habitat. The Federal Game Commission got all antsy the last time, something about Chinese snakehead fish ...

My wife, however, will be attending her first game convention, ever. Be nice to her. :)

Nichole,

If I was coming, you could bet I'd be bringing my load o' youn'uns, but sadly, I'll not be able to make it. With my oldest, who is 12, I could just DM games all day and he would love it, but for a 6 1/2 year old, they need a bit more variation. How about setting up a scavanger hunt for her? That would be something very fun to do at a con. Do you think that you'll have anyone there to help you watch her while you sell books? If not, then other activities might be a bit tough. If nothing else, bring lots of coloring books, colors, reading books, and drawing pads - you know, things she can do sitting on the floor while you are manning the booth.

Hope these ideas help a bit!

Send her around to the other booths to..er...aquire research materials. Surely nobody would suspect that the darling six year old girl standing near their booth would ever dart off with a book or a deck of cards. And even if they do see her, little kids are great at disappearing into crowds.

Do not have kids but have been to GenCon...

There is a kids area that you can drop your young ones at. They normally have stuff planed for them.

Hehe,

...funny, since 'kender' are not real, we must turn our toddlers into them during the brief period they resemble them - who is up for manufacturing a Hoopak and training/arming said lil' one with said item?

Talk about making a parents life a wee slice of hades - :D

No kids on this end, although I'm the oldest of 20, or so, grandchildren - I kinda lose track of the numbers, as my gramma and various aunts and uncles forbade me to apply the practice of ear tags to track their migration patterns.

Feh - I mean, it's not like they won't be getting their own, and then some, in their teens. Sheesh. I promise not to use dart-guns, but that only started a whole other dicussion.

I'm bringing along my newborn son Connor to the convention. My wife's family come from Wisconsin, so we're felling two birds with one stone by attending GenCon and showing him off to relatives!

I'll stop by the Green Ronin booth, if you have one this year, maybe show him off. (I plan on showing him off to a lot of people, not that anybody knows me from Adam.)

Cheers,
