Anyone ever use a Battlehive?

A friend of mine has one of those, but he uses it for his BattleTech stuff. Don't think anyone I know has one for D&D, especially since the plastic minis are pretty robust -- you can just chuck them into a backpack or Tupperware container.

A friend has one ...

A friend of mine has one, which he uses for metal miniatures.
He has also used it to transport books, as it is the right size
for the D20 books.

I haven't seen it much lately, as we now use almost exclusively
plastic minis, and we use plastic containers and cardboard boxes
for storage.

I personally have a couple of Army Transports:

I use these to store metal miniatures, especially painted ones.

I prefer these to Crystal Castle, because they are *not* a hard case.
They (Army Transport) also has a variety of different sized trays
for different sized miniatures. They also have useful straps and
storage pouches.

We bought one of these when they first came out and used it a lot, but after the advent of the plastic minis, we just use it for books and dice.

I have one. I'm kinda disappointed with it. I bought it about five years ago, after the first year the metal strips on the corners started to come off so I've had to glue them back on occasionally.

I like the idea of customizing the hole to fit individual minis. It works fine. I just don't think the trays are deep enough to account for 25-30mm miniature bases. An average metal 30mm miniature (the D&D standard before plastic came out and what Reaper still makes) is difficult to fit in if its mounted on a base. Of course, you could put the mini in one of the trays for larger creatures but...the trays are supposed to be for larger creatures.

I've found the Battlehive works best for 25mm-28mm minis which are kinda going by wayside as minis keep getting bigger.

Thanks for telling me about the Army trays, tomBitonti. They do look pretty cool.

I use plastic DDMs for foes (just thrown in a $4 plastic bin), but painted metal figs for PCs and important BBEGs, and I'm getting tired of lugging around the old chessex plastic and foam case for the metal minis. I'm looking for something like the battlehive or the army transports to let me tote the handfull of metal minis along with a few books and dice in one pack, because unfortunately, I have to travel to the site where I run my games.

More contemplation to come, it seems. Thanks to all who replied!

I have one, and the foam trays suck. They separate from the cardboard easily, you have to leave more space around them than in a pre-cut mini case due to perforations, and when I cut my slots, the bottom foam ended up coming out, leaving me with the mini sitting on cardboard (ie, less padded on its backside). Overall, I wasted my money.
