Drakeslayer Denies Use of Performance-Enhancing Magic Eric "Drakeslayer" Michaels denied accusations that he used performance-enhancing magical equipment during the 2004-2005 season with the Philadelphia Paladins. "Everybody tries to put the hate on Drakeslayer," Michaels said in a televised press conference, "but everything I've done, that's been me. You try to pretend that I'm using a Glove of Infielding or a Vorpal Bat, but I've never been charged, never even been accused. So this is just a trial by the press, and you can say whatever you like. The fans will know the truth." Michaels has been plagued by rumors of using performance-enhancing magic ever since a media reporter claimed to have caught Michaels on divination video that showed him receiving some form of enhancement bonus. While Michaels did not specifically deny the incident, which took place during a charity "Slay-a-thon" event, he insisted that the magical device was only providing him with an enhancement bonus to Wisdom -- a bonus that Michaels insists is common for media personalities who wish to avoid embarrassing blunders while performing live. But Joseph "Trollsbane" Cancerto insists that Michaels is using performance-enhancing magic during the games. "It's been like that ever since that stuff's been around," the retired player declared in his recent autobiography. "They can tell if you've got a strength-booster or luck-bonus equipment on there, so guys start putting on Wisdom-boosting items and then taking Faith from the Insightful Talent Tree -- which lets them add their Wisdom bonus whenever they use an Action Point to improve a roll. Or they drink a potion of Fox's Cunning and then go with Exploit Weakness from the Smart Hero's Strategy Talent Tree, so they're using Intelligence to hit." Michaels dismissed Cancerto's claims as the "attention-starved ravings of an athlete who hasn't been a real troll-bane since nonlethal damage got altered for d20 Modern."
