Anyone run into this before?

It was not the fact that I died and got reincarnated as a Treant. I am sure that has happened before somewhere.

But the very creative new player with the wizard used Magic Jar to swap bodies with the Mind Flayer soul already Magic Jar'd into yet another character, which led to some "three card monty" style hilarity as we all tried to figure out what the heck to do to make sure that the right soul went into the right body and the Mind Flayer soul didn't get out into one of our bodies. Tricky. :)

Has anyone else run into "chained Magic Jars"?

Not much to add along the "chained Magic Jars"...iow...haven't run across it yet.

But as this is the 'catch all' Legacy forum!

In 1E when somebody died it was usually a race between the Cleric, the Druid and the Magic User to see who brought the dead guy back. Cleric for Raise Dead/Resurrection, Druid for Reincarnate and the Magic User for the arcane version of Reincarnate.

Rolling on the MU Reincarnate table was lots more fun. Hot Elf Chick (played by that creepy guy) comes back as a troll. Paladin comes back as an ogre.

Much fun was had by all, well, mostly.

Thanks,
Rich

Not really. What edition of the game is this?

In D&D 3e treant is not on the list of races you might end up with after being reincarnated.
Untrue, in 3.0, you could become anything (not just own type). On a 100, you can be a thing not listed.

The can be anything method is in 3.5, but everything is own type (so it can be assumed so would the 100%).

This table worked the same in 2e once the Monstrous Handbook was released. I had a player with an Elven Fighter/Mage be reincarnated as a Centaur... and he loved it. So much so, in fact, he made a song about himself, and I still remember it to this day...

"He's mighty Haven, his mighty song...
His mighty voice will lead them on..."
