The Burned Man

First Post
Uh, guys there is really noone updating the site right now and Morrus is busy with like two million other projects, so is there anyone who could take over the day to day chores of the site. I´m computer illiterate but is there anyone who isn´t out there?

Not looking hopefull, is it? :(

C'mon, there must be someone with rudimentary skills - just a copy of Dreamweaver, Frontpage or MS Word will do the trick. It's all WYSIWIG stuff.

Help... maybe ;)

Deamonforge is an excellent setting. We love to play with it, but the DF page is terrible. Not the look of the page... but the sourcebook is almost a year old, inconsistent with the HTML version in the menu on the right. And there is excellent ideas and stuff on the mboard that are unavailable on the DF page :(

I know you are all working hard, like myself BTW, and I can possible help (I have a good knowledge of HTML, XML, style, etc). But, first of all, I should say:
1- english is not my first language (should not be a real problem)
2- for me, the look is less important than the coherence and the clarity

In my opinion, all the working files should be keep in one place (preferably in a CVS), and in one base format (HTML for simplicity). The actual PDF source book should be replaced by three version, regularly updated: HTML for online viewing, zipped HTML, PDF. All based on the same HTML source files. This will make the PDF a bit less attractive than the actual one... but it will be up to date!

I think the New File and Current Topic section should be combined in a Development News section, or simply a News section.

All map/art should be available in highres for download, and only the most important one will appear in lowres in the source book.

On the right menu, I would keep: Fiction, Artwork, Map (HighRes version), Forum, Counter

If all this sounds reasonable to u, send me the html source files of the latest version of the source book (that is, the version in the menu in the right, but without the menu code...), and I will make a prototype on my web server.

Bye!

Nice if you can help.

GreyOne has also expressed interest in helping with the project, it be good if we could have several people able to update the site, so that it doesnt grind to a halt if some one dissappears due to boredom, getting run over by a car, gets kidnapped, gets a religious crisis and realize that RPGs are the tools of the devil etc...

Being more than *one* to keep the page up to date is a *must*. But we have to define the format... and use a CVS if possible. My experience tells me that the winners way is to "Keep it Simple", so anyone can update it, and it can be updated frequently (essential in dev time).

The ideal approach is to use a strategy like the LDP project (DocBook)
http://www.ibiblio.org/mdw/LDP/LDP-Author-Guide/index.html
But it takes a year to master ;) So we have to stick with simpler format and eventually reformat for a major release.

at the moment, I'm holding a lot of the map files on my webspace and using the message boards to link to them. I could just as easily upload them to a map page linked to the part of the main page, in order to keep the maps current .

OK.

Could we do it like this...

..Artoxx, GreyOne and L.Ron could be given access to change the content of the site..

..why dont someone of you mail morrus and make it happen..

..the work could then be divided later on

I don't want to just hand out access to the EN World server willy-nilly (security, y'know). There are already a lot of people with access to it, many of whom have just disappeared into the void.

If we can pick one person to do it, I'll give that person the ftp details.

No problem to let Grayone or LRon do the job... But, please, drop the actual PDF file (too old). And reformat the HTML files (right menu) in *two* indexed HTML files:
- one multipart for online reading
- one big file (compressed?), for download and printing.

And take care to put only essential lowres map in that file. All other art and highres should remain accessible to download from the main page.

Also, don't include the right menu in the big file, nor in the multipart if possible... in this way, it will be possible to print only the updated parts.

Bye! Good work all. I'm eager to see the new stuff ;)
