Anyone with some inspiration for a new campaign?

Adventurers

I think the wilderness itself would be a grave threat, and compared to this the orcs are just a minor hazard.

The idea is that mighty forests, rivers and mountains are protected or kept so to say by spirits, malicious or kind. These are very protective, of course, and threaten all who travel into their realms (and perhaps beyond). Of course all fear to cross them, so the civilisied lands on the other sides of the mountains are kept in relative safety from the large hordes of beast or wildmen.

The spirits could be manifested as anything, you could have one forrest that is held by the Great Spider, or a mountain protected by the Wyvern King. I will also make stats for the Khalar, demon-like spirits who dwell in their own dark realms.
The only induviduals who dare cross the spirits, or who protects the five cities against the threat of any band of beastmen, would be adventurers. The five cities themselves do not maintain any armies or defences of their own but rather hires these adventurers to protect themselves. So this would mean you have a world where these daredevils are constantly in demand, and always competing to out-smart one another. The republics consider them a nescesary evil to maintain peace in their otherwise so perfect world.
