Apology for my poor choice of words

Over on one of Leviatham's threads he and I were having a discussion, and I tried to make a statement that was so poorly worded, that some people became upset.

I now see how my words could be interpreted, and was surprised at others' reactions.

It was not my intent to imply that a minority group is at fault for the suffering it may endure. Far from it.

I was attempting to make a tactical statement that a person should be careful how they pursue their cause, for as a minority, if they act too strongly, some of the majority may over react.

Anybody familiar with my posts and line of reasoning knows that I tend to advocate a react to bad guys with violence posture. Hardly a victim stance.

However, common sense prevails, that one must choose their battles and strike where the enemy is weak.

As I stated in the original thread, this is a can of worms. Even now, I've probably added more poor choices of words to the mix.

I ask that you give myself and others, the same grace in reading posts that Leviatham gave me as we debated his issue.

I post this, not so I can get the last word, but so I can hope to clear up my intended meaning, versus the misunderstanding that may be in some people's heads. The sad thing, is it was a side topic to the much better conversation we were having.

Sincerely,
Janx

PS. Let's not debate the original issue. People got mad. it got locked. I don't think I caused the whole thing, but some people targeted my stupid statement, so it didn't help. Too bad, because I also said some smart things.

After some weeks away I called by to visit the wiki and popped in here on the off chance an age of goodwill and harmony had taken hold. Guess not.

Nothing shows that you're above the hoi polloi like crapping in a sincere apology thread.

Janx, I missed the ruckus, but I'm impressed by the fact that you were able to take a step back and apologize.

Kind of heading down the fast track to further misunderstanding with the very deliberate and unnecessary use of the marginalising, inflammatory 'hoi polloi'.

It's a difference of interpretation, not a threadcrap :) You have read Janx's apology as a sincere apology. I read it as I see it, i.e. it claims to not wish to have the last word, but tells us how his original words are to be interpreted correctly and finishes off with several 'last words' - "I don't think I caused the whole thing, but some people targeted my stupid statement, so it didn't help. Too bad, because I also said some smart things."

I'm fairly sure that says that Janx was a victim of targeting and readers have lost out on on his knowledge and insight into homosexuality through picking over a particular detail.

You and, possibly Janx, may see this kind of point-scoring, must win approach to posting as serving some sort of purpose. OK - go ahead knock yourselves out. However, as someone who puts a lot of effort into promoting RPGs and encouraging new people into the hobby - mostly outside forums - I don't feel that either you or Janx can be aware of how a thread like yesterday's looks to casual gamers and anyone thinking of starting a group or getting into Tabletop RPGs.

Well, in that case Nedjer, I'm sorry I said more. As I said in my OP, I figured even my explanation would screw things up.

When one puts a foot in their mouth, they are left feeling like they need to explain themselves. Because after all, one doesn't do that all that time, hopefully.

And then there is the interpretation as a threadcrap. Same logic here.

Don't put intentions into other peoples' posts. And if you are so concerned about how new members would view the thread in question, stop a moment to think about what they would think about threadcrapping an apology.

Thread closed.
