I personally think it's a great idea but I would've loved to see the D20 community come to more projects like this for the problemed areas of America too.

Living in Chicago has taught me that homelessness is a big issue as those mentally challenged people are removed from the hospitals. In addition, there are many parts of Chicago crime ridden. We are not the #1 murder capital of US for nothing.

Great idea, love to see more of them. I just get the feeling that if 9-11 hadn't happened, we wouldn't see this project because the visibility wouldn't be there.

Great idea and will be buying a copy myself.

Hmmm. Joe, that's an interesting thought - perhaps an electronic publisher (or a print one, though that seems less likely) might be persuaded to begin a series of charity supplements, with the material therein donated by volunteers? One supplement's proceeds might go to help the homeless, the next's might go to cancer research, and so on, and so forth. Heck, this project could even be a joint effort, with various publishers taking turns sponsoring specific projects.

Well, it's just a suggestion, but I think it's one that's worth looking into.

Worth looking into Joe, and remember that almost anyone can do it. PDFs are cheap to distribute, and anyone can organise something like this. I'm sure if you planned something, a lot of people would contribute and buy the product. Maybe a Creatures for Chicago? It'll definitely be good PR for the RPG community.

Problem there is these are huge names doing the Swords to Plowshares (interesting idea for a spell eh?) and I honestly doubt it'll do that well. I remember there were numerous problems with the other chairty effort.

Fortunately at work we have a program where employees can refer grants to worthy organizations so there are some benefits to the cursed place.

I agree with the sentiment. I'll be ordering my copy, though I don't know when it's available. Anyone know?
It's nice to see something like this and I would support more of them, for $5.... to help many causes throught the world.

(snip)

Ogre, not even Sean knows yet. As he says on his site..."More information (such as the final release date) will be posted here as it becomes available."

As for doing more of this kind of thing, I would happily contribute to such worthwhile projects. It only required, hmm, I believe an hour of my time to put something together I was happy with for Swords to Plowshares.

The problems with these types of endeavors (IMHO) is coordination and follow-through. Both of these qualities Mr. Reynolds has in spades. If other industry types feel strongly about a cause (or become influenced as time goes on), then many have the wherewithal to carry out more charities. So, to me, it's not an issue of bringing together material, only a matter of who's going to step up and take charge.
