[QUOTE="WastedTime, post: 561160, member: 8890"] I have been playing around with the idea of applying DC to action feats. I make a distinction between what I would call innate feats such as armor proficiency and improved initiative and action feats such as Great Cleave and Point Blank Shot. My thought is to add a DC to such feats, these primarily being combat related feats. For those MMORPGs fans, the idea is similar to Dark Ages of Camelot's combat styles. In that game, you select a combat style to use on your next attack. The style will, for example, increase your attack rating or increase damage. However, you are not guaranteed to perform the style correctly and if you do not, you make a basic attack instead. Part of me likes this idea and I would like to add it to my feats, especially the combat type feats. Perhaps something as simple as a DC10 with a bonus from the relevant ability score. Applying a DC to feats would make the action performed in the feat not a guarantee and, I think, increase the suspense of the combat. Additionally, stronger feats could be balanced by an increase in the DC to perform the feat. Feats would still be different from skills in that they would not be trainable beyond the ability to perform the feat. The down side is, of course, that it makes feats less dependable and hurts melee classes more so than magic classes (though I am contemplating adding Spell Failure for every spell cast though it would be a small percent. NOTE: My campaign is very low magic). Anyway, I thought I would drag this idea out for thorough thrashing. I can’t seem to make up my mind and would like to see other's pro's and con's. Thanks all.
