Apprentice/Mentor/Mini-Cohort question

RUMBLETiGER

I've read the PHB II Apprentice/Mentor feat.

Char/Op boards say that once you get to level 10, your apprentice is level 5 and becomes your mini-cohort.

Now, if you take Apprentice at level 1, go up to level 5, swapping the Apprentice feat for Mentor Feat, acquire a level 1 apprentice of your own while you are level 5....

Doesn't the apprentice hit level 5 when you hit level 9?

You: App:
5-----1
6-----2
7-----3
8-----4
9-----5

Am I missing something?

I was also just reading that in the Warlock thread dandu posted, and thought the same thing. I assumed it was a mistake.

That's where I read it most recently, but I have seen it in other places. I could giggle when Char Op people make basic math mistakes.

I could, but I won't, wouldn't fit with my manly dignity.

Okay, just finished re-reading the apprentice and mentor feats and expanded rules.

Yes, the apprentice reaches 5 when the master is at 9 barring unforeseen circumstances. Such as the loss of previous apprentices. More than likely, the ChaOp boards must have done a quick math mistake based on what I'm seeing. There are a number of modifiers that affect the relationship going the other way but I assumed the PC had the master feat in what you were asking.

Assumption correct.
