Are arrows in flight considered unattended?

When fighting certain creatures (Magmin, Oozes, Rust Monsters) bad, bad things can happen to weapons that deal them damage. Usually a Fort save or Ref save is applied and, in the case of a melee weapon, we use the saves of the wielder. However, what is the case for arrows (and any type of ranged ammunition for that matter)?

In the PHB, it says that unattended, normal objects don't get saves. Does this mean that nonmagic arrows would be completey ineffectualy against, say, Oozes? And would magic arrows get a save for being an unattended, magic item?

Thougts would be appreciated.

I believe the arrows would do normal damage to the ooze (which often isn't any - "splitting" the ooze or somesuch) and be destroyed with no saving throw.

Well, since ANY ammunition that hits ANY target is destroyed anyway (3.5 DMG p.221, "Magic Ammunition and Breakage" and 3.5 PH p.113, "Ammunition"), and misses are 50% likely to be destroyed, what does it matter ? NO ammunition gets a saving throw against anything it hits, magic or not. That's why you make 50 at a time.

In the cases of some abilities, however, if the weapon is destroyed then no damage is dealt. Which is why it was relevant.

The answer to your question is in your first sentence. "Bad things happen to weapons that deal them damage."

They clearly can't be destroyed with no save, because then they wouldn't deal damage, negating the need for the save in the first place. Clearly the intention is Damage First, Save Second. Or lack of save, as the cases may be.

I think that if Oozes and the like were intended to be immune to ranged weapons, it would have been noted somewhere.

Okay, but what about the manufactured weapon immunity in the BoED? If you take a Vow of Peace, then manufactured weapons need to make a Fort save or be destroyed, dealing you no damage.

Does that make the recpieint immune to non-magic ranged manufactured weapons?
