Are Boots of Speed Lame?

Boots of Speed: On command, these boots enable the wearer to act as though hasted for up to 10 rounds each day. The duration of the haste need not be consecutive rounds.

If these require a standard action to activate, you are trading a standard action for a partial action. If so, you get a 5" adjustment with the partial action, correct? 8K GP for that?

Lame?

The boots functionally allow my fighter to "cast" a haste spell that lasts 10 rounds (a long battle), or twice for 5 rounds (two short battles). Or more times for shorter durations. Perhaps I need to boost my jumping ability for a round. They have a wide variety of uses.

Lame? No. Limited? Yes.

Considering how it fills a magic item slot that works for a few magical items (Boots of Striding and Springing, Slippers of Spider Climbing), and it allows the fighter to Haste *himeself*, ergo not needing the mage, I'm sure of it.

A hasted monk flurrying is just... icky.

You also get to have the following 10 rounds. And with a standard action you still get a move action, not just a 5ft adjustment.

As to if it's lame or not, well only you can aswer that. But it's the exact same thing as if a tenth level wizard casts haste on himself. He has to spend the partial action for the spell.

The fact that the Boots are included in almost every Smackdown created should tell you something... ;)

Well, they are the best way to get haste. So, it's really not the botts that are too powerful, it's haste. But upping the price to about 10k would not be out of line.

The boots are one of the best items in the game.
Sure the first round you use them you "lose" out on a standard action, but then you get it right back again in the partial from haste.
Its really no different than a mage casting haste, so I guess I miss where you think this is bad.
Once you activate the boots your hasted until you turn them off or the time runs out. So basically it goes something like this:

First Round: Activate boots, move, attack.
Second round: Full attack, hasted action
Repeat second round for eight more rounds.

And then you also get that 'lame' +4 AC bonus, which stacks with just about anything else, even for the first turn, where you do not immediately gain an action effectively.

Bye
Thanee

Don't forget the best benefit... your talking is actually hasted too so you sound like Alvin from Alvin and the Chickmunks for the duration.... that's priceless!
