Are deaf creatures immune to sonic damage?

also, does a sonic fireball seem gay to anyone else? Seems like a real munchkin way around creatures immunities......

No, I don't think there is anything wrong with that. That is how the game works.

Though the sonic fireball is really wierd since 'secondary' effects don't change. It should light as much stuff up as a normal fireball does. Magetic effects from Greater Cold (Electric subed) Orb? This bit is just the slightest bit weird, especially with sonic effects but the feat is kinda fun even if it can be cheesed.

Given some of the new monsters that show up in certain WotC adventures, sonic damage won't be the ultimate energy type for very long (if it is now; as mentioned, there are more creatures that take double damage from fire than sonic damage, not to mention all of the regenerating creatures that you need to hit with fire or acid to hurt). I expect the MM2 will have a few critters with sonic resistance or sonic immunity.

Confusion...

I think the easiest way to explain this is the following...

Sonic is an energy type - in the same way that fire or lightning is. The previous examples of shockwaves or vibrations are very good. Sound pressure is a very real thing, hearing notwithstanding.

That said, there IS a descriptor that deafness protects you against... Language-Dependent. If you are deaf, you cannot hear the language, and therefore cannot be affected by the spell.

So don't match Deaf with "Sonic," but rather with "Language-Dependent" as far as immunities go. :)

Unless of course... you could speak telepathically...
