Prove otherwise. Are sales up for D&D or down? Do the game writers talk lots of politics on their blogs (yes), do you see these issues they talk about in their game writing (big yes!). In WoW do you see them worrying over politics - something which can alienate people if you take one side over another? No they don't. They just worry about the game. Look at Blood Elves. The Horde was less popular than the Alliance; so they made a pretty race for it. No worrying about fluff or using it as an excuse to bring in their own views. They simply added something to the game which it needed. Going to the discussion about chainmail bikinis - if you want your character running around in their underwear in WoW. The game makers let you. In combat you won't want too. But there's no worrying about offending one group of people because of it. No excuses like D&D designers saying they went diehard left-progressive in ideology when writing the game to get "more women players" or whatever excuse so they could drop in their non-game related views. WoW DOES NOT suffer from a lack of women playing. Maybe a few diehard hairy armpits types won't play it because girl elves look like fashion models. But the game is general designed for a wide audience. And it doesn't use excuses like: Don't like it, just pretend you don't have it in your game. It's designed right. For the largest possible audience. Designers don't let themselves live in a bubble. And don't design for a smaller audience. A good example of what I mean can be found on Monte Cook's site. Look for his review on two monster books. Or even read Plutos. There's lots of proof out there.
