Are there Warforged in the 4e Forgotten Realms?

It's a simple question, really. I know that Warforged are generally the purview of Eberron, but I wonder if any Warforged have made prominence or even an appearance in any 4e Forgotten Realms products?

They are technically in Forgotten Realms since they're Living Forgotten Realms legal (although in FR they aren't meant to be the same as Eberron warforged, just identical statwise), but I don't know of any appearances.

i seem to recall there was mention of Dragon Magazine article that talked about how to incorporate warforged in to FR ...

I can't give reference because I lack DDI, but someone may be able to remember what I am only vaguely recalling.

It's in Dragon #371, Origin Stories: Incorporating Races. They discuss 5 possible backgrounds for warforged in Toril. In any case, these warforged aren't mass-produced like in Eberron; they "are not part of any collective race".

To expand on this, the 5 backgrounds include: a one off "wizard experiment," a product of one of the magical Red Wizard Enclaves (which aren't really affiliated with Thay anymore), coming from Ebberon by way of Sigil, travelling from the Returned Abeir nation of Gontal (possibly from a primordial's ancient shattered metallic fortress), and awakening after a century of slumber near post-Spellplagued ravaged Lantan. Of these backgrounds, the one about Lantan draws more heavily from pre-4th edition information. Prior to the Spellplague, Lantan was by far the most technologically advanced country on Faerûn (developing "smoke powder," flying machines and highly advanced clockwork mechanisms). Although there's not much left of the island nation now, it would be easy to see the occasional warforged "pop-up" near this area.

I believe WotC's position in 4e has always been that you can use anything anywhere as far as mechanics go, which I think is great. And coming up with how something might end up in that world is fun. I'm hoping that Dark Sun has some interesting stuff to offer for the Eberron game I'm playing in.

And the flip side: I'm hoping Dark Sun offers some interesting ways to include stuff that wasn't in the original. (Numerous traditional race, for example.)

Two of the ancient empires in FR canon are Narfell and Raumathar.

Raumathar is noted as having used a lot of constructs in their battles against the summoned fiends of Narfell. Raumathar is also noted as having laboratories or storage areas full of dormant constructs from these times.

I would suggest that this makes another background option for warforged that could satisfy a canon purist (if that were ever a goal).
