Eh, I'm average at best. I rarely get to play as I'm the one who ends up DMing most of the time. I usually find it real easy to give NPC's some distinguishing traits that help them seem more 'real' and 'alive,' though this is usually a facade as most don't have much depth to them at all. Almost all my NPC's have some sort of 'stock' voice and mannerisms that I use. My players often remember old NPC's they've adventured with or fought against better than other PC's, so that must be a good thing, right? Unfortunately, when I'm a player, I have a hard time distinguishing playing my character. Sometimes I won't play that 10 Int quite right (by making good tactical observations or something smart) or my actions might be a little less wise than what my character would do (I try to play low-average Wis characters as I often make... rash decisions that don't end up turning out that well). I also have a hard time staying in character. Whenever I'm not involved with something, I usually spend my time BSing with my friends and I end up missing something important or pissing off the DM. My characters usually have little depth, they almost always have some sort of agenda or goal, but little beyond that. No family trees or intricate history or whatever. However, back before I started DMing, I used to be better. I think all this constant DMing has severely inhibited whatever roleplaying skills I had, so I try to do better, but... sometimes I don't. So, I voted myself a 4/10 as a player and a 7/10 as a DM. Rounds out to about a 5 (I really don't care if that's right, that's what I gave myself damnit!).
