Are you drunk?!

Hand of Vecna

First Post
Just what are the penalties for being drunk/intoxicated? I vaguely remember seeing somehwere it was a -2 to all checks (attacks, skills, etc.), but I cannot remember where I saw that. And I'm at work now so no access to my books, but in an onlin game at another board I frequent someone asked what the effects were.

Help?

Nothing in the core rules covers drunkeness. There are various accessories (I don't think any from WOTC) that do.

I'd recommend using the penalties for "fatigue" and/or "exhaustion" in a pinch.

tournaments, fairs and taverns has some great rules for intoxication. Fortunatly for you Natural 20 Press also has these rules on their site for free at this url http://www.d20reviews.com/Natural20/drink.htm You'll probably want to convert them to word format for printing and using at your table. Also be aware that the hangover stuff isn't very realistic and you might want to work on that but other then those two points they are pretty much ready to just drop into your game.

For a quick and dirty rule, you can't go wrong with good ol' -2 circumstance penalty.

For more detailed rules, there's a nice set in Natural 20's Tournaments, Fairs, and Taverns

What kind of drunk are YOU?

The Book of Vile Darkness should cover this (and many other drugs) pretty well. Its coming out soon (next month, me think.)

Otherwise, I would probably just go with a -2 to be simple.

Other possibilities could be barbarian rage effects or subdual damage for drinking a LOT.
