I had my draft last night. Oh, it was ... brutal. It's always brutal in this league, but this unfolded poorly. Maybe. So I had the 10th pick in a 12 team league. For some reason, there was a run on RBs (unusual) before me, and I was determined to get a RB with pick 10. The only one left that was worth taking was ... Jeanty. Which ... fine. Not great value, but also bad because when it came back to me, I decided to pull the trigger and take BROCK BOWERS. Which was awesome, except now my top two picks rely on the Raiders offense. Not great, Bob. And I quickly realized the downside of the Bowers pick. There was a run on QBs before my next pick. And I still needed to shore up RB. I took another high variance pick (Walker III). And when it came back to me, I took the only available QB I could stomach- Hurts. Which, after tonight, maybe not too bad, but not who I was hoping to end up with. But you see the problem here. I'm four rounds in, I have a QB, TE, and 2RBs ... and that's it. I used the next pick on the next best available RB (Pacheco) and it wasn't until the sixth round that I drafted my first WR. That's right- my first WR is ... drumroll ... Zay Flowers. Ouch. I ended up taking Jerome Ford (RB) for depth, and loading up on interchangeable WRs - some with upside. Meyers (Raiders, again), Thielen, Palmer (Bills), Reed (GB) and I have Rashee Rice stashed on my IR (we have a single IR slot). I also picked up Justin Fields (QB) and Ferguson (TE) for depth at the end. This is going to be an interesting year. I don't like having all my apples in one basket, but it looks like I'm ride or die with the Bowers pick. I can usually count on getting one or two high-impact waiver wire picks, but that's easily the worst WR bunch that I've had. I usually have one WR I can count on, and then I make do with fluff and mirrors. This year? It's all fluff and mirrors and mining the waiver wire. Then again, you should see what the other teams look like. No one gets out of the draft unscathed. One of our folks just had surgery and had to participate remotely and on a lot of drugs. In the late rounds, he picked Amari Cooper. Do you think we were gentle and understanding? HA! Of course not.
