A rule that occurred to me, since I'm seeming to find that crits on area spells don't feel as dramatic as single-target attacks:
CORE CONCEPT:
* If you roll a natural 20 on the first attack roll of an area or close attack, you crit all targets of the attack.
POSSIBLE ADJUSTMENTS:
A) Natural 20s on subsequent rolls of the attack are not critical hits, though are still guaranteed hits.
OR
B) A natural 1 on the first roll of the attack means you miss all targets.
OR
X) Neither.
What problems, if any, do you see with this proposition? A lowers the chance for triggering on-crit abilities. B preserves probability fairness, but sounds uncomfortable. X gives a higher chance to crit some enemies than others, and increases the chance of a crit in general with no drawback.
Thoughts/suggestions?
