Who cares....it would be great if WotC was a leader again in rpgs....so many things they could be thinking about other than more art books. Just copy and paste and "print". Yawn.

How about an app that runs my characters? Or a cheap calculator like thing in a box set that can run my character in an intro game? How about maps on line that I can zoom in and out on ( that is an "art book" I would buy)? So many cool ideas people can come up with, and we are talking about art books?

Not to be a downer to this thread, but the biggest most awesomest thing WotC could do to take all of my money away from me is to convert every 1e, 2e, and 4e adventure using 3.5 rules. I'm the kind of guy that would have to buy every conversion, even if the adventure sucks. I'm sure I'm not the only person like that.

And if they did that for 3.5 rules, they can convert it into other editions for the guys that like to play those editions. That's more money that they can take from us. Converting an adventure has got to be less work than creating a new one from scratch. I'd think that would sell a lot more than reprints and art books.

With no new product coming out, I suspect he is trying to create some work for himself to appear busy and avoid a XMAS layoff this year or next.

I love dnd art in the general sense but have no desire to buy a book of such, especially considering likelihood of high cost. Thats a " I have no better use for my Money at the moment" purchase. Which happens about twice a decade if I am lucky.

Agreed with others that they could provide a whole big mess of low labor gaming products during the edition lull that will garner them good profits and sales numbers.

I would happily buy an art book containing a selection of WOTC's back catalogue of wonderful art from the 70's and 80's, and even 90's. I'm not too interested in the art from their more recent editions, though I do like the occasional Todd Lockwood piece.

But give me old Dragon Magazine covers. Give me some full size Denis Beauvais prints? You have a happy customer!

Talk of D&D art books have been going on and off for a few years. I've even suggested to Jon that they put together a book with art made by folks whou would then go on to become comic book artists, like Bill Willingham, Timothy Truman, Ken Lashley and Frazer Irving.
