  • A few weeks ago, Paizo held a competition to stat up characters from Dave Gross' Pathfinder Tales. Here are some of his favourites.
  • I was fortunate enough to be able to ask Goblinworks' Ryan Dancey (Eve Online, Dungeons & Dragons) and Mark Kalmes (City of Heroes, World of Darkness) about their PATHFINDER ONLINE Kickstarter. One thing I didn't realise - and that may have just been me being slow on the uptake - is that the Kickstarter isn't to fund the game; it's already funded. The $1,000,000 Kickstarter is to accelerate the process. With three days and $300,000 to go, it's going to be a tight race to the finish line! Over the last couple of weeks, the Kickstarter rewards have been growing daily. From miniatures, to PDFs, to core rulebooks, to in-game items, not a day goes by without a new item being added to one of the reward tiers. Paizo and Goblinworks are making an Herculean final push towards that goal line - they've been featured in Forbes, The Escapist, PC Gamer, and more. I asked them not only about the game, but the Kickstarter process itself. You can read my interview right here.

  • When Stuff Happens, What's a DM to Do? by Ed Greenwood -- "The unexpected is, by definition, unexpected, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be prepared for it. You can use the hints you’ve sprinkled in weeks and months past to keep the game moving forward."

Over the last couple of days there has been quite the pile of stuff added to or reformatted on EN World. For your reading pleasure, we have:

[h=3]RPG News[/h]

  • You can download some PDF previews of Cubicle 7's Time Traveller's Companion for the Doctor Who RPG.
  • Final Testament, the first adventure for FFG's Only War, is coming to your local retailer next week. This story takes players to the war-ravaged mining world of Hervara, where they must do battle at one of the Imperium’s most brutal fronts.
  • Take a look at this preview of Stars of Inequity, the upcoming Rogue Trader supplement that focuses on the perilous worlds of the Expanse. "Game Masters can create their own new realms with the World Generator, a system designed to craft unique planets filled with terrible risks and unmatched potential for profit. Meanwhile, players can brave the dangers of planetside missions..."
  • If you have never seen it, the old fate PDF is here and it's worth a look from a purely evolutionary perspective. [Link stolen blatantly from Rob Donoghue on Twitter!]
  • Adventure Begins at Bedtime is slated as the first book of the Illuminerdy. "...the book will contain adventures and scenarios – for a number of systems – inspired by bedtime stories. There will be some stuff for kids and some stuff that is for adults."
  • The Gygax Magazine release party is on Jan 26. It will be streamed live for those who can't attend.
  • There's an article here about why Monte Cook’s Numenera seems to make sense for Brian Fargo’s spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment.

  • Over at Campaign Mastery, you can read an article about tactical play (and players) in RPGs. "The PCs will usually put one of their number – whoever seems best-suited for the task – in charge of their overall tactics on the battlefield; the higher up the ladder of complexity the game exists, the more essential this becomes. And if the player is himself at least passably good with tactics, the result is a happy PC camp. Things get trickier when the character charged with the responsibility for orchestrating team tactics – and who supposedly has the skills to pull it off – is being run by a player who can barely spell the word."
  • Kobold Press has posted a tiefling gauntlet witch variant: the Demonhand Witch racial archetype for Pathfinder.
  • The Chamber of Mazurbul talks about adding "mobility denial" to 13th Age.
  • Keith Baker, who wrote for Kobold Press' new Kobold Guide to Woldbuilding, asks a few questions of Kobold Press head honcho Wolfgang Baur.

[h=3]Other News[/h]

  • Cubicle 7 shows off some Doctor Who card game art here.
  • RPGNow/DTRPG mogul James Mathe posted something of a rant [in his "brick & bortar game store hat" not his retailer hat] on his blog about retailers which offer exclusive deals to publishers.

Shroud of the Ancients RPG Kickstarter Hits Is Funded

You forgot to mention that the Shroud of the Ancients RPG Kickstarter hit it's goal yesterday. That's okay. I forgive you.

Well, now that we have reached our goal, the first core book for Shroud of the Ancients, The Adventurer's Guide to Terrath, is a done deal. But with new pledge levels, new stretch goals and new teaser art on our kickstarter page, I am sure we can do better. We still have a week left, but I wouldn't wait too long. It will be here before you know it. Just pop over to kickstarter and type in Shroud Core in the search projects field. You can't miss it.
