I am looking for some ideas for my ongoing campaign. I ´ve got basic ideas but there is some flesh missing. It is a high level campaign. Prelude: In an earlier age there was a time of dragons. The dragon king (the first dragon and creator of all of them) came down to the prime from Rakkalor, the origin plane of dragons in my world, punishing transgressions against his children (lizardfolk found a magic way to control dragons) and taking some treasure, oh and the the rulership of the world certainly. There was war gainst the king and he lost against the high elves, some other forgotten race and his own elder children, the old or great ones. these are immortal dragons and the progenitors of the normal dragons (the usual bunch but no gem ones and no fixed alignment). The old ones took control of Rakkalor and became the rulers of dragonkind, but they lost rulership over the other races. Most of the old ones stayed on the prime. The king was divided in three parts, this body, his mind and his power. The body has been buried under a mountain, thepower is imprisoned in a gem and the mind has been caught in the plane of dreams. The problem is, the dragon king is not dreaming as it was planned but his mind is manifesting every hundred years or so in the mind of mortals. After a battle against the former bearer of his mind the king jumped to one of the SCs, something that never happened before. Now he sleeping but nobody is sure how long. The group is now looking for a way to get him out. The normal way is that the old ones cast detection spells to locate him and kill the bearer. Of course the group doesn´want to take this route. I have planned that the SC who has the king in his mind has to do a battle of will against the king, so they will look around for artifacts and methods to strengthen him for this combat. the other thing to do is that they will have to visit Rakkalor to break the cycle. What they don´t know now is that the family of another SC, that came in last session, has been altered by the king. they were used as some kind of mental retreat should something happen to the body of the dragonking. The SC´s nephew has been kidnapped. They don´t know why now. The general plan is to visit Rakkalor, the bearer will be able to ( if they get an artifact)impersonate the king to a limited degree. This means he has to go to the plane and open a special gate(this gate is some kind of symbol that the king can never come back), go back to the prime, force the mind of the king thru this gate and seal it with the help of some allies. Sounds easy ;) What I don´t know now is what else will happen to the characters on the plane and what physical features I should include. There is a war among the dragons. There are the loyal servants of the king who kept quiet under the old ones leadership, but are now rebelling and the old ones who are trying to keep control of the plane. The nephew of the SC is there , too, because the servants know that the mind of the king is jumping into a member of the family every three generations or so. It is the time again and they finally localized the nephew and are casting a ritual to call the mind to the boy. There is now: The dragon spirit world. This is the ethereal of this plane where the dead dragons reside. They are called ghost dragons. The King´s lair: no idea how it should look like but this is the goal of the party The jade dragons: They are golems constructed by the king with greater intelligence. The question is: How should the plane look like and what obstacles could I include besides dragons? What about the lair? Should it be a alace or something like this? What interesting features could be placed on the plane of dragons?
