An aspidochelone is an enormous whale-like sea creature covered in a bony shell. Aspidochelones often sleep on the surface for years, long enough for plants to grow on its surface. Sailors often mistake an aspidochelone for an island, only to awaken it and be devoured. The average aspidochelone has a shell about 55 feet in diameter, but much larger specimens have been reported, some as large as a mountain. Some sages believe that aspidochelones are the result of hybridization between a dragon turtle and a prehistoric reptile such as elasmosaurus. COMBAT Any ship coming too near a waking aspidochelone will be attacked. Improved Grab (Ex): If an aspidochelone hits a creature up to one size smaller than itself with a bite attack, it may make a grapple check as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If it gets a hold, it can attempt to swallow the creature. Swallow Whole (Ex): An aspidochelone can swallow a grappled creature by making a successful grapple check. A swallowed creature suffers 2d6 points of acid damage and 1d8+10 points of bludgeoning damage each round. It can escape by dealing 30 points or more of piercing or slashing damage with a Tiny weapon or natural weapon. Skills: An aspidochelone gains a +8 racial bonus to Swim checks and need not make checks unless rushed or threatened. It suffers no size penalty on its Hide checks. [/QUOTE]
