Assassin Plotline Assisstance

Heronmarkblade

First Post
I am currently running a fairly low-magic campaign. In it I have a female high elf Rogue. She was exiled from her people 135 years ago, and travelled into the human lands. There she found she had a knack for rogue-type activities and quickly became one of the most efficient, if little-known, assassins in this part of the world. Later she reformed and has since given up the assassin mantle, and tried to disappear into obscurity. She made the alignment change from Chaotic Evil to Chaotic Neutral, and recently to Chaotic Good.

Heres the sitiation... i want to bring her past back to haunt her. However, my mind is running dry on plot lines, situations, and other encounters.

Any help would be appreciated.

Since she was a highly effective assasin for quite some time, you could arrange to have a former guildmaster/employer, etc track her down, wanting her to do 'one last job', which is aprticularly effective if they have some sort of hold over her i.e. blackmail. The relatives of someone she killed could be hunting her, particularly if she made enemies of a dwarf clan or elf family... Evidence could come to public light of who murdered the beloved potentate soandso when she happens to be in the area (particularly good if used in conjunction with an old enemy)...

just some random thoughts...

One way her past could come back to haunt her is for her to slowly build up the understanding that the work she did was part of some larger plot that is now wreaking havoc. Her new sense of responsibility might inspire her to try to defeat her former employers, who by now are much richer and more powerful. The scale of the plot and the level of power would depend on the scale present in your campaign, but could take some of the following forms:

1. In a discussion with a seer or holy person (bonus if this is another PC), she learns that several of her assassinations were of young people who might have become strong forces for good-- strong enough to stop her former employers. With them out of the way, her employers were able to consolidate power, with dire effects for the people of the area.

2. She is literally haunted by her former victims. She begins seeing them in unexpected places, staring at her accusingly. One series of adventures could consist of her attempts to figure out why she is being haunted (leading to the conclusion that the only way their spirits can rest is to have her finish the work they were destined to do).

Liches make for very good central figures in these plots, because they have the ability to hatch plans over several centuries and also are forced to do much of the plotting through layers of intermediaries.

Assassin THANKS

Mucho thanks, guys (uh, or girls, whichever you happen to be...damn pronouns)... anybody else got anything?

The "striking targets of goodness" idea is FANTASTIC, it works in VERY well with a plotline i already have running.. i already have a lich in the game...actually hes a Chosen of the God of Undeath the way Elminster is a Chosen of Mystra... and that would fit in GREAT with some of the stuff hes already got planned.

*rubs hands together maniacally*

thanks... what else you all got?

A paladin of St. Cuthbert learns about her past and oaths or is given the mission of punishing her for his past crimes?
