Vairar grew from his experience in the wilds too. While his early captivity left him with deep distrust of the bestial orcs and their spawn, he couldn't help but find the contrast between those gnolls in the Lodge, and those orcs that he fought against and Lunn, who lived with nature and not against Her, who took the elven contempt in stride and who has shown more tolerance than most of the elves he met. He couldn't ever meet their standards of grace and culture, he couldn't hope to live to be even a hundred years, let alone a millenium, but he was trying. And as far as Vairar could see, succeeding, in life. He was educated, if not really book smart, he lived in peace with himself and others. And Shalendra had similar experience, awakening to the potential of those short-lived folks who lived fast and furious, with no time to enjoy a finer points of every craft, but if they took up something, it may be one thing, but they grew fast with it. What they lacked in time, they had in focus. Shalendra and Vairar spent may evenings talking about this, sheltered princess learning from not-quite-jaded mercenary. And he, getting somewhat over his reclusiveness brought by his shame and maimed appearance, rejoined elves and returned to the culture of his origin. Now if only he could find a priest powerful enough to regrow his ears...but who knows, his penance might be soon over as The Winged Mother bestowed ever more power upon his unworthy soul. Seeing Daggerford was both sweet, he'll see the rest of the group and do something good again, and sad, he will leave Shalendra and the elves behind again.
