Peacefully so.</p><p> </p><p>While it seemed like things at Blackstaff Tower would be similarly quiet - boring even - with the stereotype of wizened old men (Morgan being one of the younger members), pouring over old books, it was far from the feeling of the farm. At the tower, there was always some kind of research or experiment that was going on. There was competition, too, among members, some vying for prestige within the ranks of the academy or people engaged in personal rivalries.</p><p></p><p>Things moved slow at the farm and Morgan had taken the opportunity to enjoy it. His parents were also slowing down and Morgan took the time to help them with the chores the garden, appreciating the time spent with them, talking about the simpler things as well as engaging in the local gossip. </p><p></p><p>Some of the things his parents fretted over seemed small and, sometimes, petty to Morgan. Especially compared to what he'd discovered about the Thayan plot which seemed to constantly buzz around in the back of his mind. Fortunately, it provided him with a grounded perspective, allowing him to be objective and offer practical advice to heated issues such as, <em>who should really be responsible for organizing Aunt Nancy's 80th birthday potluck!</em></p><p></p><p>When he left the homestead, there was a lump in his throat. As he walked away, he stopped to waive one last time to his parents. He took in the whole image so that he had something to take with him, even as it felt like something was being left behind. He'd need to hold these memories tightly in the coming weeks, knowing that they might be the only thing to help him get through the challenges he was about to face.</p><p></p><p>He was comforted, too, in the knowledge that he'd left behind a generous estate, in the event he didn't return.
