Okay, here's a basic outline. I'll make something pretty when I finalize some setting stuff. A rough timeline so far Game takes place in about 2500 -The planet was originally occupied by 2 pl 5-6 alien races who almost killed one annother off in a nuclear war -nuclear winter ensued, and both hid underground (some still exist, most are now indifferent to the human colonists) -humans colonize the planet (PL 6-7) -colonizing stuff takes place (nothing special here) -Population spreads out from major cities at the equator built around space elevators to mine -Gradually, smaller mining companies are bought up and merged -The president, prime minister, and parliment introduce legislation limiting the growth and control of the mining companies -Wealthy leaders of the mining companies, declare that this is a reggression to socialist movements, and, citing the failed socialist reforms in the early 20th century secretly plan a coup -Many rank-and-file soldiers, dissatisfied with thier bad pay side with the companies -The parliment building is bombarded from orbit almost all the reprasentatives are killed. the attack is led by the secretary of the navy. The ships firing on the Presidential complex are intentionally delayed by a systems-oficer who had second thoughts about his rebellion -the other military secretaries side with the president, prime minister and cabinet, and organize a last ditch defence to evacuate government officials. -The mining companies take control of the government, executing or imprisoning remaining government officials. In order to keep power during the transition, the companies use most of thier troops, they have very few resources to spare for hunting down the old government. -The old government gradually forms a rebel organization to overthrow the companies, with the help of frontier miners, who are forced to live in dirty and overcrowded mining towns in order to get a job. (Most PCs would be recruited from the mining towns or be older veterans from loyalist military forces) -The campaign takes place about five years after the fall of the old government.
